Students of grade 8, across sections, performed an activity to check if liquids could also conduct electric current and classified the various liquids tested as electrolytes (strong and weak) and non-electrolytes. During the activity, they tested different liquids found at home like tap water, salt solution, vinegar, milk, honey, etc. by dipping two free ends of naked wires, which were a part of an electric circuit. As a tester, they took LED and a magnetic compass (used to test weak current). They wrote down their observations in a tabular form in their notebooks. Students concluded from this activity that some liquids conduct electricity while some do not. The LED glowed for the conducting liquids, and also these liquids showed a magnetic needle deflection. The students learned the concept of electrolytes and non-electrolytes and learned skills of observation and conclusion.
